Infection rampages, planet after planet burns and falls to it. Turning ally against ally, and ultimately fatal to all, the only known cure lies in the immune system of a race long dead, now available only through cloning.
This is the story of Veruko. The 14,268th clone of her kind, awakened for a single purpose: to fight the Infection. She’s a little unique. Besides the weird name, she’s been implanted with the memories of an educated dead man, just to make her immediately employable. Other than that, she’s a bit defective. Small, sensitive, afraid, utterly dependent upon those around her, constantly mistaken for a child. All of which totally vexes the memories in her head. But more importantly, she’s a Healer, and therefore, Hunted by humans and Infected alike.
Ejected from the hospital on her sixth day of life, her only protection is the crew of the Mercy Quelle. They’ve been tasked with transporting her to her new job, but all they’re currently good for is making a little profit on the side. And enjoying the occasional bar fight.
So, as one might expect, things do not go smoothly for Veruko.

This is the continuing story of Veruko. The 14,268th clone of her kind, created to heal the Infection. She’s also been implanted with the memories of a dead man, which has worked out surprisingly well for everyone.
Recently kidnapped by bad people. Then kidnapped again by her protectors. A little worse for wear now, she’s coming to grips with the fact that she’s short, sensitive, and completely dependent upon those around her. At least snuggling with friends is nice.
Her protectors, the crew of the Mercy Quelle, are still trying to get her Home. And life keeps getting in the way. Veruko faces an inner demon that turns her into a raving… well.. she’s too ashamed to say it. Meanwhile, her protectors face off against their true enemy as well.
The Infection.
And the poor Mercy Quelle just keeps getting riddled with more and more holes.
